Lab Walkthrough Video:

Doorman was deployed on a server to monitor the hosts in a network.

A set of nodes were being monitored by Doorman and one of them was compromised. Analyze the recorded logs and answer the following questions:

  1. On the compromised host, the attacker had installed a package using the apt-get utility to take screenshots periodically. What was the name of that package?
  2. Provide the name of the directory where were the screenshots taken using the downloaded utility saved?
  3. The attacker had also uploaded some of the screenshots to a remote server using curl utility. What was the URL of the server to which the screenshots were uploaded?
  4. The attack was carried out by a local system user. That user had also scheduled some cron jobs to take screenshots and upload the files to the remote server. The attacker had scheduled the backup task to be run as another system user. What was the name of that benign system user? Also, figure out the name of the real attacker.
  5. Provide the IP address of the compromised server.

Technical Support for this Lab:

There is a reason we provide unlimited lab time: you can take as much time as you need to solve a lab. However, we realize that sometimes hints might be necessary to keep you motivated!

We currently provide technical support limited to:

  • Giving hints for a lab exercise
  • In rare circumstances, if you have totally given up (NO!!!) then tell you how to solve it. This will be limited to sharing the solution video or lab report
  • A lab exercise fails to load or has errors in it

If you need technical support, please email  attackdefense@pentesteracademy.com  clearly mention the name and link of the lab exercise and other essential details. The more descriptive you are, the faster we can help you. We will get back to you within 24 hours or less.
