Lab Scoreboard

Lab Walkthrough Video:

Git is a distributed version control system for tracking changes in source code during software development. It is designed for coordinating work among programmers, but it can be used to track changes in any set of files.

The target machine has a git server and an API running on it. The git server allows the committed changes to be deployed to the API. To safeguard against the malicious users, the code can only be pushed by some authorized users as the git server requires credentials to authenticate the users before any code gets committed!

Despite all the preventive measures, there was an unintended functionality provided by the API which exposed all the API files and even some git internal files containing sensitive data!

Objective: Perform the following tasks:

1. Run auxiliary/scanner/http/git_scanner auxiliary module against the target API to retrieve the git config file.

2. Use the git config file to retrieve the credentials of an authorized user.

3. Modify the API code to get access to the target machine and retrieve the flag from it.

Instructions:

  • This lab is dedicated to you! No other users are on this network :)

  • Once you start the lab, you will have access to a Kali GUI instance.

  • Your Kali instance has an interface with IP address 192.X.Y.2. Run "ip a" to know the values of X and Y.

  • The git server should be running on the machine having IP address 192.X.Y.3.

  • Do not attack the gateway located at IP address 192.X.Y.1

Verify:
1. Credentials of the authenticated user. Format: username:password

2. Flag present on the target machine

Technical Support for this Lab:

There is a reason we provide unlimited lab time: you can take as much time as you need to solve a lab. However, we realize that sometimes hints might be necessary to keep you motivated!

We currently provide technical support limited to:

  • Giving hints for a lab exercise
  • In rare circumstances, if you have totally given up (NO!!!) then tell you how to solve it. This will be limited to sharing the solution video or lab report
  • A lab exercise fails to load or has errors in it

If you need technical support, please email  attackdefense@pentesteracademy.com  clearly mention the name and link of the lab exercise and other essential details. The more descriptive you are, the faster we can help you. We will get back to you within 24 hours or less.
